Great Christmas Thoughts

My Dear Grandmother who passed away in 1999 at the ripe old age of 106 used to recite this poem, which she had memorized, every Christmas to the delight of her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. My mother who is now 94 had also learned this poem and recited it around Christmas. I was delighted to find it in print and find it enjoyable and bringing back many good memories.

Christmas in another time

It would not seem like Christmas if we did not read this story at least once each year - usually on Christmas Eve. I am lucky to have in my possession an original leather bound copy with a hand sewn binding which was given to my grandfather by his Sunday School class when it was first published in the 1880's. It is a precious story. I can not speak for the kindle edition, as I have never purchased it, but I am very glad to see it is back in print again.

A great family Christmas tradition!

This poem was a tradition started by my grandmother when her girls were born in 1926 and 1928. She said it every Christmas - had the whole thing memorized! After Grandma passed away, Aunt Wylma tried to find it in her things, but it was not there. We don't know where she learned it. So, Aunt Wylma started looking at bookstores - back in the 1980's - no luck. Then she found and copied one from the public library. She brought it to read that Christmas. The tradition started again and now her daughter is reading it to her children. It's a wonderful story and a great family tradition. I think it's so wonderful that they preserved the original text and artwork - smudges and all - what a treasure. If you need the text bigger, just go online and google it and you can get the text. But having this book to hand down generation to generation is priceless!
