Decent Tool for Students

I picked up SUPER READING SECRETS because I was and am still interested in learning as much as I possibly can. Being able to increase my reading speed would allow me to read more books than I can now and in turn I would learn more information. After reading the book, I do know how to increase my reading speed. The techniques that Berg suggests in SUPER READING SECRETS really do work, however, they are not something I intend to do frequently. I like reading. Even when studying, I take pleasure from most things I read. For me, there really isn't much distinction between reading for pleasure and reading for information and reading for studying. Just about everything I read is for pleasure. Most of the techniques that are suggested in the book are directed towards reading for information and reading for study.

Besides the speeding reading tips, the book is also full of useful study techniques and tips. If I was still a student in high school or college and had never discovered these tips and techniques on my own, then I would have found these parts of the book to be quite useful. However, since I already knew about these techniques I didn't get much out of these parts of the book either.

True to the title, SUPER READING SECRETS really does explain how a person can learn how to read one-page in three seconds. It takes time, but it does work. Students who have trouble studying from high school and college will get the most from this book. However, if you're someone like me who likes to read (even most textbooks) for pleasure, then you probably won't gain much from reading this book.

Good studying guide almost fullfills promise

Mr Berg book is an interesting approach to not so much speed reading than strategic reading, or rather culling, of information. Although there are speed-reading technniques per se that are well-explained in his tome, a lot of the material covered deals with planning so that you can "speed-scan" the book. He, as well, spends some pages on allied disciplines that are useful studying adjuncts. Mnemonics, memory rhythm manipulation, the use of music as recall device are summurily explored. The extensive bibliography that he provides will allow to explore these avenues further if you are so inclined. The book is a softer sell than the infomercials. Interestingly, Mr Stern does admit to some slight chicanery in his public demos...
Although it will increase your reading speed, do not expect results in the range that Mr Berg claims... as he is not really reading each and every word on the page. The book is just an okay buy in terms of content but it is so cheap that if one is interested one should buy it.

Compact & useful training guidelines

i read this book and immediately applied the techniques into practice - the result is that you don't really can remember everything you read, but you learn an efficient method how to see the essential information in the text. the book does not waste time on providing reading examples (when it does, the appendix does not contain it), but gives you on-hand instructions to learn the technique. In my experience, you don't have to follow them exactly, e.g. i didn't tape the time intervals for the exercises. the most important is that you practice - whatever exercise it is - on a regular basis. However, the book often repeats itself, one exercise was almost the same as the previous. also, you don't learn too much more specific scientific background information.

Prior to his death in 2013, James T. Collins, JD, was the Executive Director of the Deloitte Multistate Tax Center at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Mr. Collins earned a Bachelor of Science degree in political science and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Georgia. In addition, Mr, Collins was an adjunct professor of taxation in the School of Business Administration at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he taught an interstate and local taxation course since 1980. He served as the editor in chief and chairman of the editorial board of the Journal of State Taxation.. He was named the 1994 Corporate Wisconsin Tax Professional of the Year. --Author Bio

John C. Healy, MST, CPA, is the Managing Director of the Deloitte Multistate Tax Center and a senior lecturer in the Graduate Tax Program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and is co-author of CCH's Multistate Corporate Tax Guide. Mr. Healy has more than 30 years of state and local tax experience and has held SALT management positions at Miller Brewing Company and General Electric Medical Systems. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Marquette University and a Master of Science degree in taxation from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He is also a Certified Public Accountant. Mr. Healy has published numerous articles in professional tax journals and is a past recipient of IPT's Literary Award. About the Author
Bruce M. Nelson, MA, is a CPA with Ehrhardt -Keefe-Steiner-Hottman-PC. Prior to taking this position he was with the law firm of Silverstein & Pomerantz, LLP. Prior to joining Silverstein & Pomerantz, he was the Manager of Tax Policy for two years at the state of Colorado. Before that, he was a Senior Tax Manager for several years in a "Big Four" accounting firm, where he ran the state and local tax desk. Bruce earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Master's degree from Colorado State University, and he is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Colorado. He is also on the adjunct faculty for Regis University where he teaches courses in individual, partnership, and corporate taxation. He is a frequent seminar speaker and teaches continuing education classes in state and local tax for the University of Denver's Graduate Tax Program, the Colorado Society of CPAs, and the American Institute of CPAs. Bruce has published more than 30 tax articles in many publications including the Journal of Accountancy, Tax Executive, Controller Magazine, the Journal of Multistate Taxation, State Tax Notes and Colorado Lawyer. He is also co-editor of the Guidebook to Colorado Taxes, also published by CCH. Bruce is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Colorado Society of Certified Public Accountants. Prior to his death in 2013, James T. Collins, JD, was the Executive Director of the Deloitte Multistate Tax Center at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Mr. Collins earned a Bachelor of Science degree in political science and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Georgia. In addition, Mr, Collins was an adjunct professor of taxation in the School of Business Administration at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he taught an interstate and local taxation course since 1980. He served as the editor in chief and chairman of the editorial board of the Journal of State Taxation.. He was named the 1994 Corporate Wisconsin Tax Professional of the Year. John C. Healy, MST, CPA, is the Managing Director of the Deloitte Multistate Tax Center and a senior lecturer in the Graduate Tax Program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and is co-author of CCH's Multistate Corporate Tax Guide. Mr. Healy has more than 30 years of state and local tax experience and has held SALT management positions at Miller Brewing Company and General Electric Medical Systems. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Marquette University and a Master of Science degree in taxation from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I found the missing manual!

This is the kind of book I wish Leica included in the box when I bought my D-Lux4 camera. What I like most about this book is the fact that the author manages to use an informal - I'd almost say friendly - style while still providing a comprehensive and thorough coverage of the camera's features. Nothing has been left aside.

Before digging in the book, my initial concern was that it would be one of these books that just paraphrase manuals, and don't provide any added value apart their weight of paper. Starting from the first chapter and on, I quickly realized that this wasn't the case with this book. You can sense that the author is communicating with you his experience and enthusiasm about that camera, and photography in general. The book goes to the essential of each feature, and the author doesn't forget to share a few tips and insights.
It's a good complement to the user manual which can be terse and which doesn't explain much in terms of concepts. This book makes a good job at filling that gap, with its hands-on approach. Less theory, more practice!

This book is very readable: not too light that you'd think it's just a big cheat-sheet of some kind, and not too dense that you'd fall asleep and feel the urge to put the book back on the shelf! Some of the intimidating or even obscure features of the camera are well explained, encouraging you to use them. I feel that I was learning something, as if a friendly person was really trying to show me and teach me something about the D-Lux4.

Another plus, is that the format of the book makes it convenient to go around and have it handy when on trip. In other words, a good field book. I think that anyone who bought a D-Lux4 should do themselves a favor and grab one copy of this book.
A rare book, and hopefully a good example to follow by other authors. Highly recommended.

DLux 4 - A Comprehensive Manual

I personally own a Leica DLux 4 and my biggest complaint was that the manual that comes with the camera was not only poorly written but lacking in depth.

This book is easy to read, comprehensive with detailed instructions on how the camera works and what makes it tick. I am sure that Leica DLux 4 owners will appreciate the time and the effort that was taken to make this available.

A very useful book

This book fills a long felt need for a good, simple to understand and comprehensive book on the delightful D-Lux 4 camera. Such a book was awaited for a long time and in the meanwhile people had to make do with supplementary material from the Panasonic LX3 manual. The original manual required you to 'read between the lines', which need is obviated by this book - I guess the author being an attorney helps ...
I would have liked to see more information on custom settings and finer adjustments to the camera to suit various photographic preferences and shooting situations. That would really help people far along the path to discover the latent capabilities of this very capable camera.

Worst textbook I have ever used.

I won't go into much detail about the frustrating and inadequate nature of this book, as many others have already done so. Basically, all you need to know about this book is that it is a waste of time. The author rarely explains anything with sufficient detail and seems to expect you to already know an incredible amount about aircraft structures. My TA even told us that we had better come to class every day, because the textbook is pretty much worthless.

I wondered why anyone would force students to waste money on a book that is cleary insufficient, but then I recognized the author's name. It seems the only reason why I am forced to buy this book is because the author is a professor at my school.

Just stay away from this book if you can.

Good book, but you should already know the basics

This is the required book for my graduate class on structures. Its best if you already have a familiarity with the basic concepts of stress and strain, torsion, bending, etc. It has good examples, though, and the problems at the end of the chapter are not too hard (tho, they do required a lot of algebra and plug-and-chug). There are not selected answers in the back.
If you're looking for a good basic book on structures, this one probably isn't for you.
Also, they don't actually talk a whole lot about applications to aircraft structures. What the book DOES do is cover the basic theories that one would need to start to analyze aircraft structures. It does not cover design of aircraft structures.

HUGE help!!!

I purchased both this book, as well as the practice test book. Get both. This book includes one practice test, but the more the better (there are 2 in the other book, titled "PSB Health Occupations Exam Practice Questions"). The practice tests help you understand how questions are formatted and also give you an explanation with each answer, such as how a math problem was done, or a short paragraph explaining the science stuff. It's impossible to truly study all of the science areas, but at least going over them briefly allowed me to know a little bit about each one so I could take better guesses on the exam. I studied these 2 books for about 2-3 weeks and I scored in the upper 90's on almost every section of the test!

This was semi helpful, it helped me prepare for the exam... but my best advice is to do the test as quickly as possible and when you have 2 mins or so left on each section, remember to finish answering them all. Don't leave anything blank!

I bought this study "guide" in order to pass the PSB-HOA to gain entrance to my community college phlebotomy program. I passed the exam quite well, but that was not because I used this book. The book offers nearly no help on passing the Nonverbal Reasoning Section, a subject that Americans have no exposure to in school. (The only books are from the UK. They are available from Amazon.) The Natural Sciences section of the book is just an information "dump" taken from previous tests. There's no structure in presentation. This could be by far the most difficult section on the PSB.
