This book is great - not a quick flick

This book is great - not a quick flick, but an ongoing reference which has helped me understand more about drawing portraits with my own unique style. The shading templates are particularly helpful as I refer to them when drawing faces so I can create depth and 3D suggestion. The instructions are very detailed and there are loads of step by step photos of the processes. I'm doing things in my sketchbook I never thought I would! I'm using materials I had unopened for ages! And I'm trying out new techniques and am so surprised and happy with how my drawing and painting is rapidly progressing.

Trust me: You need this book. I have a lot of mixed media books and so many of them are pretty books without a lot of techniques. Most of them presume you already know how to draw. "Drawing and Painting Beautiful Faces" however, is packed with practical, clear techniques for learning to draw fabulous mixed media faces. Jane Davenport gives solid, detailed, clear instructions for drawing. Beginners will appreciate the step-by-step illustrations she provides. More advanced artists will enjoy Jane's careful attention to detail which will help refine, improve and expand their technique. The book has a breezy, cheerful quality, but don't let Jane's relaxed attitude fool you -- she teaches serious drawing techniques. The author also has crazy, beautiful artistic skill and the book is liberally illustrated with her lovely and inspiring work. Despite the whimsical quality of her art, there is very little in this book that is fluff. This book is absolutely packed with useful and inspiring information from the beginning to the end. I don't have enough superlatives in my lexicon to expound upon how good this book is -- just trust me and get it. Jane Davenport has put together an instructional tour de force with this book. If you are interested in drawing or mixed media, you need this book!

What a treat for mixed media junkies!

I am SOOOOO glad I purchased this book!
I was not that familiar with Ms. Davenport's art but I love mixed media and portraits in particular, so I was drawn to this, like a magnet. After the first few pages I knew I would not be disappointed, and after pouring halfway through I had to stop and not finish the book. I needed to savor it, make it last, and I didn't want to bear the sadness of getting to the last page! Seriously, This is That GOOD!
Not only is the art work pure eye candy, but the instructions are spot on, clear, and presented in a fresh, easy breezy way. I was given a renewed sense of confidence and a gentle kick in the can, to start new projects, and to revisit ones that I had abandoned. The content was gentle enough for a beginner, yet challenging enough that one would not soon outgrow the techniques.
It would have been even farther out of this world to see more on backgrounds, and also figures....but this book fully delivered on it's promise, "Beautiful Faces". Perhaps more books in the future??

I have several books on MongoDB and manage a cluster of MongoDB servers. After this much experience, I *should* know a lot of what's already in this book (and do). However, there were several nuggets of great information that I hadn't seen before. Easy to read with lots of concise examples.

I meant that I was not going to miss this book!

When I got notified via Ty Patterson’s newsletter that "Zero" had been posted on Amazon, I instantly went to the site and bought it. The Warrior series has become my favorite thriller series and I have been anxiously waiting for this book to be published. Just to make sure that I knew the instant that it was out, I also had put my preference on BookBub to notify me of any new books that Mr. Patterson publishes—I meant that I was not going to miss this book! I can’t get enough of the Warrior series.

Zeb’s team is once again engaged in stopping the bad guys against impossible odds. This time the story involves 2 kidnapped boys—one boy being the Vice President’s son. The boys are kidnapped right under the noses of Zeb’s team—even though no one realized it at the time. The kidnapping was more or less disguised as a terrorist attack so no one realized what the true intent was until after the attack is over. Needless to say Zeb and his team get involved—to the chagrin of other law enforcement officials. Special Agent in Charge is Sara Burke and she is one of the few people that the team completely trusts to work with but even with her that don’t tell her everything immediately.

There are many twists to the story because the bad guy keeps throwing up red herrings to distract and aggravate the good guys—to keep them from discovering the real reason for kidnapping the boys. Even we, the reader, don’t know what the reason is until the end. And what a reason it is!

From the very first chapter until the last chapter it is almost non-stop action. And just when you think that there could be nobody worse than the man who kidnapped the boys, you find out that there is even a worse monster than the kidnapper. A monster that gets exactly what he deserves!

As with all the Warrior series this can be a stand alone story, but to get the best flavor of the story, read all of them and in order—the characters really grow on you as learn them from the beginning and it helps you to appreciate them even more as you read their roles in each story. Now I am waiting with bated breathe for the next book in the series, hope it is soon!

Addictive. Very, Very Addictive

I have now read all eight books in this series, the first seven were binge reads as I simply could not stop. Then withdrawal set in, and the pains began.

Oh I tried other fixes...I tried a few new authors, I even revisited some 'old friends' whom I had read years earlier, however nothing I did really really seem to help.

Fortunately I receive a a notice that "The Warriors" were back! Ty Patterson had published book 8 in the series..."Zero".

I quickly placed order with the good folks at Amazon for the Kindle Edition...It downloaded andI began to read, and read, and read and the pangs of my withdrawal began to recede and finally disappeared completely.

All too soon, mere hours, I was finished and I'm now gritting my teeth and preparing myself to once again experience the pains of waiting for the next, Book 9 in "The Warriors" series...Write quickly Ty Patterson as my addiction needs to be fed. Please.

The Agency

Wow! This was an exciting book. It starts out with a team of terrorists taking over a hotel. Big mistake! They took over a hotel where the deep, dark Agency was having lunch. The terrorists were spotted even before they acted. Zeb Carter, lead agent, and his team quickly made plans and went into action. Five of the team split off from the group and hid. It was like a well-oiled machine. The remaining terrorists got away with two hostages, the son of the Vice President and his friend. Why? Zeb Carter and his group were determined to find out.

This book was one thrill after another. I'm not really that much of an action and adventure fan, but there are a few that I just love. J B Turner's Jon Reznick series, Barry Eisler's John Rain series, and Ty Patterson's Warrior series. Zero is a great example of Action and Adventure that anyone would love.

I highly recommend this book. You can read it as a stand-alone or you can read the whole series in any order. Breathe some adventure into your life. Get this book. Read this book. Then relax and catch your breath. You'll need it for the next one.
