Relativity and particle physics are then treated together, followed by a discussion of Feynman diagrams and particle physics.

About the Author
John Morrison received a BS degree in Physics from University of Santa
Clara in California. During his undergraduate years, he majored in English,
Philosophy, and Physics and served as the editor of the campus literary magazine,
the Owl. Enrolling at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland,
he received a PhD degree in theoretical Physics and moved on to postdoctoral
research at Argonne National Laboratory where he was a member of the Heavy
Atom Group.
He then went to Sweden where he received a grant from the Swedish Research
Council to build up a research group in theoretical atomic physics at
Chalmers Technical University in Goteborg, Sweden. Working together with
Ingvar Lindgren, he taught a graduate level-course in theoretical atomic physics
for a number of years. Their teaching lead to the publication of the monograph,
Atomic Many-Body Theory, which rst appeared as Volume 13 of the Springer
Series on Chemical Physics. The second edition of this book has become a
Springer classic.
Returning to the United States, John Morrison obtained a position in the
Department of Physics and Astronomy at University of Louisville where he has
taught courses in elementary physics, astronomy, modern physics, and quantum
mechanics. In recent years, he has traveled extensively in Latin America and
the Middle East maintaining contacts with scientists and mathematicians at the
Hebrew University in Jerusalem and the Technion University in Haifa. During
the Fall semester of 2009, he taught a course on computational physics at Birzeit
University near Ramallah on the West Bank, and he has recruited Palestinian
students for the graduate program in physics at University of Louisville. He
speaks English, Swedish, and Spanish, and he is currently studying Arabic and
Hebrew.

Best way to get started on Modern Physics!

This book is a must have for anyone who is interested in learning all the basics of modern physics. It touches on all the main concepts and ideas of the subject and goes on with interesting applications and some history. Although it is important to have a strong math background to understand some of the derivations, most of the material can be understood with just simple calculus.
I have read trough parts of more popular books like "Quantum Physics of Atoms, Molecules, Solids, Nuclei, and Particle," and while these books tend to go into more depth, they simply lack a clear explanation of the concepts. Anyone who is just getting started in modern physics should definitely start with this book. Perfect for an undergraduate quantum physics course!

Excellent resource for introductory modern physics.

Unfortunately I fear that those who review the book negatively on account of it not explaining things well, or being confusing, are just not cut out for the advanced physics that awaits them. This book is fully comprehensive, and so long as you understand calculus, this will provide everything you need in order to prepare for advanced, modern physics. In addition, it is an excellent GRE study source for the modern physics section. The questions at the end of each chapter ensure that you not only have the basic formulas and definitions memorized, but that you can apply them as well.

Good book for a very abstract subject. The author writes the book almost as though from a historical perspective, putting emphasis on the scientists who made the discoveries that most other books wouldn't bother to do. This helps because it gives the student a general understanding of why and how certain discoveries and equations came about. It's kinda hard to follow if you just skim over the chapters, but if you actually read the whole chapter you get a good understanding of the material and the equations.

It Feels Incomplete

I hesitated to review this book several weeks after I read it because I knew I wouldn't be able to give Chaplin 5 stars. He's an amazing author and the book is wonderful but as detailed as it was in certain areas, it felt incomplete in others. However, he shares some valuable information about his times, not just his personal life, which I'm grateful for and I could relate to some of his experiences 'cause certain things are universal. It's just that he spent a lot of time writing about women than was necessary. As someone who wanted lots of inside information about his life as well as his films, it was not balanced. But I learnt that there's a biographer that his wife showed certain materials to after his death and there's more information in his book than this one. For all who are interested, it's David Robinson's Chaplin: His Life and Art, which I can't wait to read. I still recommend this book to all because there's nothing like reading from the person in question. It's priceless and has a personal touch that I wouldn't trade for anything in this world, but since it feels a bit incomplete I'll also recommend the book I mentioned earlier.

I'm an enormous Chaplin fan, so I anticipated widening my perspective on the supremely-talented artist. My perspective was widened, but not appreciably, and for that reason, I cannot rate the book any higher. Chaplin gives great detail about his impoverished boyhood, but slides into a long litany of the world's greats with whom he palavered once he'd made his impact. Names, names, and more names, but no real depth about what any of them meant to him (except Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford). Even his half-brother Sid gets short shrift. Therefore, to that extent, the book is very disappointing. Chaplin must have had reasons to bypass so much of what we fans would like to have been told. I don't pretend to know, but I will not be using the book for any reference or bothering to pick it up again.

Fascinating to learn about his childhood. Although his childhood takes up slightly more than one third of the book I could not put the book down. He explains his process for writing, directing, producing, composing, etc.. A little too much name dropping, but I guess he had the right to be so proud of keeping company with Einstein, Churchill, Kings, etc. I now realize that many classic comedy routines actually came from Chaplin, for example the candy assembly line where Lucy couldn't keep up. That came from Chaplin. In all an amazing read.

This book will find readership in all ages and amongst people from all backgrounds. For all said and done, sex is an integral part of our life. But there is so much more to sex than what is commonly known. This book removes any taboo associated with sex. It gives an indepth account of the physical and metaphysical aspects of sex and offers invaluable guidance on understanding and transcending obsessive slavery of sexual gratification. Two and a half really.

I was trying to decide which of Tung's point book to get as a reference, since the Miriam Lee book was the only one I had, and I was told that Miriam's book wasn't too credible of a source for Tung's. So to Amazon, I go and noticed thus one after getting an email from a local practitioner. The author is from my area, so I thought of keeping things local. Well. It doesn't vary much from Lee's book except anecdotal usages. There are a lot of misprints also, and no way does the book get into any of the theory behind usage. This is pretty much a point location book with some clinical usage. I ended up getting a lot more from someone's seminar hand outs than from the book itself. I would of gave it more stars, but the misprints made me cross reference too much.

Great book for someone who has already studied Master Tung's acupuncture

I own many books on Master Tung's acupuncture, including Palden Carson's translation of Master Tung's book (the first book out, which is pretty barebones and has virtually no clinical guidance in it), Dr. Wang's book, Dr. Maher, Dr. Young, and Dr. Lee's.

This book has some original clinical notes that reflect how Master Tung actually used his points, along with Dr. Wang's personal clinical experience. For this reason it is one of the better books currently available. However, in the absence of some good instruction, it will probably be hard for a practitioner to pick up this book and start effectively using Master Tung's points.

I suggest new practitioners seek out instruction from Dr. Young or Susan Johnson and add this book to their libary after already studying the system.

The authors have presented those interested in this incredibly clinically applicable system of Acupuncture, with a great deal of information laid out in a manner that both is easy to follow and implement into your Acupuncture practice.

Many points were not only defined but the illustrations help to find it and learn how to needle the point as well.

Master Tung practiced a family system of acupuncture that is not seen in the mainstream but in the past few years has been steadily rising. I have used many of these points and concepts to help people in my clinic.

Books in English on Master Tung Acupuncture and like legs on snakes. Not that easy to find.

Packed full of information that can help you better utilize this system, those interested in this style of Acupuncture will not be disappointed in this book.

Come see why many Acupuncturists have started using this system. You can treat with fewer needles but with stronger healing responses from your patients.

A great book that should be in all Acupuncturists libraries.

Sandler was a sales genius!

Here's the thing--I have been in high-end straight commission selling for a long time. I have seen sales people come and go in my industry. Those sales people who survive end up figuring out and using the Sandler strategies intuitively, even if they never heard of Sandler. These salespeople figure out that they better find out pretty quick if they've got a viable prospect or not, instead of being a walking brochure and giving presentations and dog and pony shows to anybody who will listen.

Sandler was a genius sales trainer because he told it the way it is for the day-to-day salesperson. Case in point--before I ever heard of Sandler, I had already made enought sales to realize that the best prosepct was a prospect with "pain." My first sales manager years ago used to ask me, "Where's the pain"

when I told him I had a hot prospect. "Find the pain, find the pain," he used to say.

I often wondered why the traditional sales/motivational gurus(you know, the giants at NightingaleConant company) never talked about "pain." Oh, sure. They talked about a prospects "need". But they never took it further than that.These gurus never talked about getting the prospects nitty-gritty "pain".

(Alot of sales gurus tout "Spin Selling." Like that is some new revelation in selling. Give me a break.Salespeople in my industry call "Spin Selling"--"Sandler lite" because that's what it is. "Spin selling" is taking Sandler and making it agreeable to the mass of sales people out there.)

Anyway, I think I've said enough. Except that learning the Sandler Selling System will change your sales life. You'll be happier, have more self-esteem, have more control of the sales call, and most importantly, you'll go to the bank more often!!

I've been in software sales for 10 years & took Sandler training 4 years ago. My sales rocketed 100%!. When I saw the book I had to have it, it's all the Sandler training in a nutshell. Taylor, M.D. is Professor Emeritus of Family Medicine at the Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine in Portland, Oregon.� A board-certified family physician, Dr. Taylor is a 1961 graduate of the Temple University School of Medicine.� He trained in the United States Public Health Service Hospital at Norfolk, Virginia, and was in private family practice in New Paltz, New York for fourteen years.� In 1978 he joined the faculty of the Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.� In 1984, Dr. Taylor moved to Oregon, where he served as Chairman of the Family Medicine Department of the Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine until 1998 He is the author and editor of 25 medical books including Family Medicine: Principles And Practice (6 editions), White Coat Tales: Medicine's Heroes, Heritage And Misadventures, Medical Wisdom And Doctoring: The Art Of 21st Century Medicine,� Essential Medical Facts Every Clinician Should Know, and Diagnostic Principles and Applications.� Dr. Taylor, who currently resides in Virginia Beach, VA, and his wife, Anita, have two daughters and four grandchildren.

Meh - there are better guides to academic medicine out there. This is somewhat informative, but very limited by the author's personal experience (supplemented by polling his buddies)
